Introduction
It is located on the western foot of Mt Earnest Ross, and climbs are mostly edges and slopers on solid, compact limestone. There is a wide range in difficulty: there are currently 27 routes here with room for many more. Grades range from 5.6s to a few 5.12s. The walls undulate and most climbs have a variety of terrain from steeps, face, and arêtes. Getaway has longer climbs 20 – 33 m, so plan to bring 15 quickdraws and a 70 m rope. This crag is brand new. Expect a rougher trail and rockfall. Wear a helmet at all times.
A special thanks goes out to NARRDA for donating hardware, drill bits, and equipment to this crag. It is wonderful to collaborate with amazing partners like this.
Approach:
Drive on Highway 11 and park on the west side of the highway (52.0838, -116.4217), and locate a cairn marking the trailhead for Flag Hill. Follow this trail for 300 m. As the trail gains elevation and enters a clearing towards Flag Hill, watch for the faint Getaway trail branch to your left with a significant dry fallen tree with a large dead stump behind it. Follow this trail for about 15 min to the crag. The trail is new, so follow the flagging tape and occasional rock stack. Try to stay off the clay area on the trail as it will erode extremely fast under your boots. You will arrive at the base with Daytrip Wall to your right.
